Work starts on sustainable new homes in Watton

The two-, three- and four-bedroom homes have been designed to be as energy-efficient as practicable, with solar photovoltaic panels fitted to each house, triple glazing, as well as LED down-lighters and high levels of insulation.

The new homes will have a distinctive design, with a mixture of brick, render and cedar cladding, taking key design features from our award-winning hus22 development at Drayton near Norwich, which was designed by Conran & Partners.

"We're very pleased to be building in our home town of Watton" said Tony Abel. "We wanted these new homes to stand out from other homes which are being built in the town, both in terms of their look and their livability and in particular their sustainability and energy-efficiency. As far as we know, this will be the first development site in Norfolk with Solar PV fitted to every new home as standard.

"As well as being very sustainable, we are building these new homes to a high specification, with features such as fitted intruder alarms, electrically-operated garage doors and high-quality finishes. I was born in this town and I want to be able to look back and be proud of what we have achieved here."

We will be implementing our "Good Neighbour Charter" on the site. This sets out promises about how it will try to minimise the impact of construction on surrounding homes and businesses, as well as a number of pledges to ensure that the builder will be considerate, clean, respectful, safe and environmentally aware as it builds the new homes.

A copy of the Charter will be delivered to every neighbouring property of the site, and is available on site and online to anyone else who requests it.

"Too often developers have no interest in the communities in which they are working", said Tony Abel. "As a local, family-owned firm, we are very aware of our responsibilities in the county in which we all live and work, which is why we adopt a different approach".

The first home on the hus46 site will be released in the early summer. Those wishing to receive details when the site goes on sale can register their interest on our website or by contacting Savills on 01603 229229.
