Shipdham Site seeking Norfolk artist for new commission
Abel Homes is seeking a local artist to create a piece of art made from oak, to reflect the environment and name of its new development, Oak Meadow. The commission is part of the company's ongoing public art programme, which has aleady seen four pieces of public art installed, with a fifth commissioned for a site at Watton. The picture shows the artwork installed at the Swaffham development.
The brief is to local artists for ideas for a piece in oak, as the site in Shipdham features several oak trees. ''When we build new houses, we are creating new communities as well'' said Maggie Abel, ''We hope that these public artworks will form the hub of these new communities, starting to bind the threads together through sparking conversations and giving a sense of shared ownership - as well as a focal point to stop and chat.''
The new artwork will be positioned at the entrance of the new development, which is situated just behind the church in the centre of Shipdham. The new artwork is expected to be installed in the early summer of 2014. Artists interested in finding out more about the commission can obtain a copy of the brief by calling Natasha Goddard at Abel Homes on 10953 88 44 86. The closing date for submitting ideas is 31st December 2013.
