First Residents Move Into Community Of New Homes In Swaffham

Ashley Rees and Georgia Reeve receive their keys from Clare Cornish right of Abel Homes sm

A first-time buyer couple who have been living with their respective parents while saving for their deposit have received the keys to their brand-new home in Swaffham – the first to move into a development of 160 new energy-efficient homes in the town.

Abel Homes sales and marketing manager Clare Cornish welcomed Georgia Reeve and Ashley Rees with flowers and Champagne, along with their keys, to help them celebrate moving into their first home at Cygnet Rise, off Brandon Road on the southern edge of Swaffham.

The couple decided to buy an Abel Homes house after Ashley’s boss recently bought a new home built by the Norfolk-based builder on its Swan’s Nest site, on the other side of Brandon Road – and highly recommended both the home and the experience.

“We wanted a new house and had seen a few, but on my boss’s recommendation we went to see an Abel Homes in East Harling, and immediately knew that was what we wanted,” said Ashley, who works at McDonalds in the town.

“When we realised Abels were building at Cygnet Rise, we didn’t hang about; we reserved this house in March before it was even built, to make sure we got the one we wanted.”

Georgia, who is also working at McDonalds while she completes a Masters degree in Criminal Psychology, said that there were several other factors which made them choose an Abel home.

“There was so much more included in the price than the other developers we had seen, including solar panels, a garage, all the appliances and the floor coverings, which made it such better value.

“But the thing which really decided us was that when dealing with a local housebuilder you know your worth in a way that we didn’t feel with the bigger national firms.  It has been a really good experience from the moment we first looked at the show home in East Harling.”

Now the couple are looking forward to hosting both sets of parents over the Christmas period to say thank you for allowing each of them to stay in their family home and build up a deposit.  “We are so excited about having our first Christmas in our own home,” said Ashley.

Welcoming the couple and handing over the keys, Abel Homes sales and marketing manager Clare Cornish said, “It is always a delight to welcome people into their new homes, especially the first people to move onto a new development.

“We have always said that our business is not about bricks and mortar, but about creating new communities, and we have started to do that here at Cygnet Rise today.”

Like all of the homes at Cygnet Rise, Georgia and Ashley’s new home has the top ‘A’ rating for energy efficiency, including features such as photo-voltaic solar panels, underfloor heating, triple glazing and high levels of insulation, as well as fibre broadband direct to the door and an electric car charging point.

Cygnet Rise will also include a new Tesco Express convenience store, a local centre with a number of small retail units, a 64-bed care home and 40 assisted living homes for older people.
