Cheers! Local Brewery Commissioned To Create Special Beer To Celebrate New Homes In Hingham
Drinkers in Hingham will be saying ‘Cheers’ to a local house builder, after it commissioned a special beer from a local brewery to mark the start of 88 new homes in the town.
Norfolk-based Abel Homes has commissioned a special brew called ‘The Hops’ from Attleborough brewer Wolf Brewery to mark the start of work on the site, which is also named ‘The Hops’ in recognition of the fact that the land used to belong to Bear’s House and Farm, owned by Charles Crawshay, a 19th century brewer and partner in Youngs, Crawshay and Youngs brewery.
And people in the town will be amongst the first to taste the new brew, as a quantity of the beer is being donated by the Abel Homes to Hingham’s Medieval Fair, which takes place on the weekend of 12th-13th December, to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the town’s Market Charter.
Abel Homes finance and operations director Paul LeGrice visited Wolf Brewery to take delivery of the first batch of the beer from Des D’Souza.
“We came up with the idea of creating a special beer to celebrate our site’s brewing heritage, and so that local people could raise a glass to the creation of much-needed family homes in the town,” said Mr LeGrice.
“It has also given us an opportunity to get involved in a great Hingham event, and help organisers raise funds by selling The Hops beer at the Medieval Fair. We are also investigating the possibility of selling the beer in local pubs, with the proceeds again going to good causes in and around Hingham.”
Mr D’Souza said, “The Hops is a unique flavoured fruity blonde ale, brewed using fruity hops. It has a mild bitter hop taste, with fruity and floral notes.
“We are delighted that Abel Homes has chosen us to brew their special beer. We are the nearest brewery to the site in Hingham, and it is nice that a local house builder has chosen a local brewery to do the job.”
The Hops beer will be available at the Hingham Medieval Fair, which takes place on 12th and 13th December. The Fair includes a Medieval market, story-telling, activities for children, minstrels, fire-eaters, stocks, birds of prey and archery. Food and drink is available all day.
Work started on the 88 new homes off Norwich Road in the town last month. The new homes will be highly energy-efficient and sustainable, with features such as photo-voltaic solar panels, triple glazing and high insulation levels. All the new houses will have an ‘A’ rated Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), the highest achievable rating for energy efficiency.
The new houses feature an innovative design which has taken its cue from an award-winning Conran-designed development in Norwich, also built by Abel Homes. They will offer fibre broadband direct to each home, as well as electric garage doors and floor coverings to every room as standard.
The show home will be launched in the spring. Further details are available at www.abelhomes.co.uk.
